Spooky Effects

When I was young, Halloween was a special holiday & my Aunt's birthday. Every year after trick or treating all the cousins would meet up at her house for a party. That family bond and celebration is part of why I love Halloween so much.

Now that we are grown and my Aunt has since past I love to decorate inside and out in in honor of that memory.

Last Year I purchased a few decorative pieces from Kohl's for our front window. This year I went with a different window theme. They hold a tealight candle inside for a spooky effect. I added velium to the windows & owl so an open flame wasn't the best choice.

I recently fell in love with Pink Zebra soy sprinkles. OMG they are amazing. I rarely burn candles since I become a Mom. These soy melts are a wonderful alternative. Behind the figures I have a Orange Simmer Light with a mix of fall baked scents. Not only does it look like Halloween it smells like Halloween.

You can contact Jamie with your Pink Zebra questions.

For those going "OH I want that house", I found the haunted house on Amazon, but with different colors.

Do you have any special Halloween traditions, past or present?

Door Wreath

Once again Pinterest has inspired me to try a new craft. I have collected several door hangers for Halloween. I don't know what I was thinking as I only have one door.

First the inspirational pieces.

I love the black and purple theme. I have a dollar store purple skull too. The leaves I have displayed with my Apothecary but I have purple tulle laying around. I love the simplicity of Boo but it's too simple for my taste.
I started with hot glue which is not the smartest glue for tulle. After a few burns I moved on to gorilla wood glue which dries much faster standard gorilla glue.

In my mind I saw the wreath as two parts, left and right , and I viewed it top to bottom. Therefore my Boo looks more like OOB on the finished product. It has become a conversation piece.

I love it! I hope this post inspires you to try something new too.

Apothecary!

I am a bit obsessed with a book series called Outlander. The first season is now on Starz. I love that the main character is into herbs and natural healing while in the 1800's.

I noticed these apothecary and a few others at the crafts stores and thought "I can do that!" I have plenty of empty jars hanging around for crafts. I have glass paint too by Deco Art which I have used previously on my glass garden flowers. Next I needed to create or find labels to print. I love pinterest for this purpose!

The paint is fairly thick so I mixed in Mod Podge. I used craft glue to stick the labels to the glass then finished with a thin coat of Mod Podge.

Not too shabby Aye!

You can use as a centerpiece & fill in with leaves/ pumpkins.

Or you can put it on display in the window....

I love the look with some eerie filters on Picmonkey!

When you have time check out Pickmonkey.
You can design your own labels and upload the photos to print.

Bloody scene

How cool is that DIY bloody hand Halloween decoration! I had to give this a shot. Kylyssa Shay mentions this could get messy so I did this while my son was at school.

Some tips:
- You need multiple thin layers & could take a few hours to complete.
- Do the first print with Mod Podge & allow to completely dry before adding the bloody layers.
- Make sure your fingers connect to the hand.
- Let it completely dry on the plastic wrap BEFORE attempting to remove & put in place.

I think the blood drops really pulls the scene together. The larger splatters are easiest to apply.

Wrap a sturdy board in plastic wrap. You may have to tape to the back of your board. Generously apply Mod podge to your hands and stamp onto plastic wrap. Allow this to fully dry. Add one drop of blue paint to a glob of red paint and mix with Mod Podge. Paint your hand and keep adding layers after each dries.
